Adam Schary
Los Angeles artist Adam Schary considers the way in which both travel and art priviledge the end result. A sound installation inside the gondola provides an explanation of the process of art production by Schary. The talk on art making accompanies the process of riding up the mountain to get to the exhibition. Schary points riders to the view of the mountain and explains the challenge of creating meaningful art in the presence of monumental nature. The mountain range is so massive, any art is small and meaningless. Schary’s work reveals the processs and struggle of art making, forcing gondola riders to listen and tolerate his frustration, giving strangers an intimate encounter usually never discussed in the gallery. The gondola is a small enclosed space for strangers and the segment not only provokes expectations about finished works of art but also about destinations.
